Stairway

At the first sight, the relation between earth and sky is similar to the one between ground and ceiling; however, there can be only a metaphorical relation between a stairway to the sky and a stairway to a ceiling. Indeed, a stairway is a tool, which helps people to reach the one out of reach, an interzone. In this work, as a starting point, I have considered the above metaphorical similarities. Then, I have questioned the relation between up and down and also their tidal action by placing moldy bread heaps on the stairway steps, on which color separation is applied.

Merdiven

“Yer ve gök arasındaki ilişki ile bir odanın tavanı ve tabanı arasındaki ilişki, ilk bakışta birbirine benzer. Fakat bir odanın tavanına çıkan bir merdiven ile ğöğe çıkan bir merdiven arasında yalnızca metaforik bir benzerlik vardır. Merdiven insanların ulaşılmaza ulaştıran bir araçtır, bir ara mekandır. Bu işte yukarıdaki sözü edilen metaforik benzerlikten yola çıkıp, renk ayrımına tabi tutulan ekmek küfleri merdivenin basamakları üzerine yerleştirerek, aşağı yukarı arasındaki mekansal ilişki ve gidiş gelişleri sorguladım.”

“This exhibition is a game about space. The space sets the rules of the game. In this game, three artists shape their own fictions according to this particular space. This space operates through these fictions; surfaces are covered, grounds are articulated, layers are inscribed. The space opens up places of fiction without losing its own identity. The spectator takes place in this game as well: the space is programmed by the ‘perception’ which it tries to reshape.”
